The EU-South Africa strategic partnership: changing gear?
The September summit between the EU and South Africa marked some progress on the political dialogue and confirmed the importance of the economic partnership. However, both partners are facing a difficult internal political context, differences between them remain on crisis diplomacy and various obstacles hinder stronger trade relations. A deeper partnership between the EU and South Africa could pave the way to further cooperation between the EU and the African Union and to engaging with other emerging countries.
